Hi there,

This month bares important news for Anthesis. On 23rd October, Anthesis announced the appointment of Dr. Matthew Bell as Group Chief Executive Officer, effective 1st December, 2025. As part of a planned succession, co-founder Stuart McLachlan will step down as CEO and remain on the Board of Directors, ensuring a smooth transition and to provide ongoing advice and support as we continue to tackle some of the world’s most critical environmental and societal challenges.

Meanwhile, we also heard this month that the European Parliament has rejected the proposed compromise agreement on the EU Omnibus I package, a reform initially designed to simplify sustainability and corporate reporting requirements under the CSRD and CSDDD.

While such rapid changes in the sustainability reporting ecosystem can be a challenge to navigate, they are also a reminder of the importance of navigating changes with flexibility and pragmatism.

As an example of this, we recently supported Klöckner Pentaplast (kp) with a double materiality assessment in preparation for CSRD. Although the landscape surrounding these reporting requirements is still in flux, kp saw the assessment as a strategic step to understanding their impacts and exposure to potential risks and opportunities.

Learn more about these recent regulatory updates, our work with kp, and additional guidance on addressing new and evolving reporting requirements below.

CSRD & CSDDD 'Compromise' Package Rejected

The European Parliament has rejected the proposed compromise agreement on the EU Omnibus I package.

What this means for you:

  • The original Omnibus proposal is still active: The Commission’s February proposal remains the baseline. Since Parliament rejected a compromise that would have weakened requirements, the final legislation could introduce increased requirements (compared to the compromise agreement) – but this remains to be seen.

  • Ongoing uncertainty: With no adopted Parliament position, finalisation is delayed, and the scope, thresholds, and timing of requirements remain unclear. Non-EU companies and those with EU operations should continue to monitor evolving thresholds, which could bring more entities into scope or shift reporting timelines.

  • Companies should be proactive: Companies that are able to continue proactively preparing for reporting readiness, supply chain due diligence, and better data systems will be better placed than those who wait or assume a minimal end state.

With no adopted position, the process faces continued uncertainty. A second vote is expected on 13 November 2025, after which “trilogue” negotiations between the Commission, Council, and Parliament could begin. Final agreement may not be reached until late 2025 or early 2026.

Anthesis will continue monitoring developments and sharing insights as the legislative process evolves. We welcome you to contact us with your questions.

        INSIGHTS | Sustainability Reporting Singapore

Singapore has joined other major global markets in pushing for clearer disclosure of climate risks and opportunities to implement mandatory climate reporting aligned with the International Sustainability Standards Board (ISSB). These disclosures will improve consistency and align corporate practices with global standards, as investors, regulators, and stakeholders demand greater transparency.

INSIGHTS | Integrating Climate & Nature Risks and Disclosures

Climate and nature are inseparable, with intertwined impacts on business, society, and daily life. However, most companies still analyse and report on climate and nature separately, creating blind spots in corporate strategy and resulting in decisions that are based on an incomplete picture of the risks involved. By integrating climate and nature risks, companies can instead leverage a more comprehensive foundation for resilience and can gain a competitive edge in an uncertain future.

INSIGHTS | Preparing for EUDR Compliance

The European Union’s Deforestation Regulation (EUDR) is more than another compliance requirement. It’s a defining test of how effectively companies can connect sustainability ambition with operational and legal readiness. Recent EUDR updates from the European Commission – including revised implementation timelines and transitional reliefs – may appear to ease immediate pressures, but they don’t change the strategic reality.
