ESOS Day, 5th December. When I met a client recently who has already completed their ESOS audits and is starting to implement the recommended actions the similarities between ‘ESOS Day’ and that other significant date in December struck me.
Are you one of those how are ahead of the game, have all your audits complete completed in August and have them wrapped up and posted already? Or are you one of those who will be running around a couple of days before the Big Day trying to get all the information you need, getting cross because there are too many other people trying to do the same thing and the ‘postal system’ has ground to a halt?
Alert – don’t leave your ESOS submission to the last minute; the submission process is made up of 56 questions over 17 pages!
The Big Day arrives, you celebrate with all your colleagues, eat too much, drink too much and breathe a sigh a relief that it’s all over for another (4) years.
You then look around and realise I’s not all over, you’ve now got to do something with all the stuff you’ve acquired. So what are your options?
- Stick it in a cupboard and forget about it – phew, problem solved! But what a waste of time and money
- Make use of the gifts you’ve been given – takes time and commitment but is very rewarding
So which do you think you’ll do? Are you a hider or a doer?
One of the most successful Christmas presents I ever bought was a trumpet for my husband! For years he’d talked about wanting to play the trumpet but I wasn’t sure how serious he was so I rented a trumpet on sale or return and booked him some lessons expecting to be taking the trumpet back within a few weeks. Ten years later he now plays in a brass band and it’s one of the highlights of his life.
Are your ESOS audits your trumpet? With a little bit of help and dedication will you be able to be reaping the benefits for years to come?
We’d love to help you make the best of your ESOS audits. We can help you with:
- Staff engagement and behaviour change;
- Reviewing, prioritising and implementing your audit findings;
-
Opportunity business case development;
-
Commercial and technical modelling;
-
Technology/ system piloting and trialling;
- Energy efficiency programme management support and rollout.
So Happy ESOS everyone – let’s hope we can all be Bob Cratchit not Ebenezer Scrooge.
