Reducing carbon at the ‘greenest games ever’
Anthesis helped London 2012 to become the greenest Olympic and Paralympic Games ever, by developing an award-winning, comprehensive carbon management strategy to help avoid 400,000 metric tons of carbon dioxide.
The methodology that was developed has raised the sustainability bar for future world-class events. The work on the 2012 Games has been extremely influential with other world class events building on London’s legacy. As a result, Anthesis has been helping other world class events to better measure and manage their greenhouse gas emissions and go 'carbon neutral'. These include the Wimbledon Tennis, 34th America's Cup, the Brazil 2014 World Cup, and the Sochi 2014 Winter Olympics.
Anthesis won a ‘Beyond Sport’ award for its work on London 2012. The carbon management methodology was recognized by the independent Commission for a Sustainable London 2012 as 'groundbreaking' and by NGOs Bioregional and WWF as an 'innovative approach' and a 'key sustainability success story'.
