Event: Preventing Food Surplus Becoming Food Waste

13 January 2017

On Tuesday January 24th in Manchester, UK, Anthesis’ Dr Julian Parfitt will be one eighth of the leading panel at pro-manchester’s ‘Preventing food surplus becoming food waste’ lunch event. Julian, Resource Policy Advisor and Practice Leader – and current Resource Hot 100 nominee – will be sharing his insights alongside other pioneering practitioners tackling food waste.

Latest data suggests the UK wastes 6 million tonnes of “avoidable” food waste each year – yet over 8 million people are struggling to afford to eat. To play its part in addressing these incongruous figures, Manchester is taking a joined up approach to tackling food waste, including through the recent launch of Good Food Greater Manchester – a vehicle to catalyze collaboration and further progress across the city and region.

Julian will be joined on the panel by representatives from food redistribution organizations Fareshare and Company Shop, app creator FoodCloud, Manchester Metropolitan University, law firm DWF to explore the policy landscape, as well as Asda and Kelloggs.
