Carbon and Ecological Footprinting for Radiohead's US Tour

16 October 2007

US music tour carbon and ecological footprint

International superstars, Radiohead, are well known for their interest in the environment and wanted to not only inform their fan base, but embed sustainability into their tour program.

In the music world there have always been concerns over the environmental footprint of music bands jetting around the world. Radiohead was worried about its own impact, and commissioned Anthesis to footprint its tours in the US. The study drew wide boundaries – including fans' travel, merchandising, waste and energy – and demonstrated that the overriding impact is from the travel of thousands of fans.

As a result, Radiohead is now taking steps to help and educate their fans in minimizing their travel emissions, as well as reducing the band's direct footprint.
