New initiative The Ice Shed is working with Anthesis to provide carbon neutral ice to campers at festivals in the UK and beyond. The Ice Shed is launching this summer at Somersault Festival, Wilderness and Festival No. 6. Wilderness festival kicks off tomorrow - Thursday 6th August.
The team will sell ice and cooler bags so that people can keep their own food and beverages cool while they camp. They will be onsite to rescue campers from warm drinks, with the Ice Bike providing a roaming service of ice delivery.
Anthesis will work with The Ice Shed to determine the carbon footprint of delivery of ice to festivals. The study will inform The Ice Shed about the hotspots and total carbon emitted during the lifecycle of ice delivery.
This is the first initiative developed by Mobius Concepts, a group that is looking to pursue business opportunities through recognition of the three P’s (people, planet, profit).
Ash Blythen from Mobius Concepts said: ‘We don’t want The Ice Shed to melt the ice caps, so we’re working with Anthesis to neutralise the carbon we produce. The festivals may be hot but we want people to be able to stay cool - and minimise their carbon footprint.’
Jono Adams, Associate Director at Anthesis said: ‘The Ice Shed is a great initiative and we’re excited to be involved. It shows that it’s completely possible to create win-win outcomes for consumers, companies and the climate.’
Anthesis will find out how much carbon is used to produce 1 kg of ice. This will mean looking at ice production, ice related products (cooler bags, buckets and so on), transport of the ice to festivals and storage. The Ice Shed is keen to work with its ice and product manufacturers to help them reduce their impact as much as possible.
