The 19th May launch of the WWF-UK’s report ‘From Risk to Resilience: Does your business know its water risk?’ saw UK industry being urged to assess supply chains both within the UK and internationally to discover where they might be at risk of water scarcity, poor water quality or reputational damage associated with their use of water.
The report draws on analysis from WWF, industry case studies and on a new study conducted by Anthesis which identified that while, on average water risks are moderate, many individual businesses will have hotspots of high water risks in their supply chains for particular products from some locations. For example, China, India, Bangladesh and Pakistan, which account for almost 60% of our clothing imports (worth £9.7bn), all have areas of high water risk. Because of the highly complex nature of supply chains, only the businesses themselves will be able to identify their own hotspots of risk.
